FAQ's

How much does it cost to get into flying an airplane?  There are a couple of options here.  Hobbico makes the Superstar Select RTF (Ready to Fly) for $279 which we think is the best all around trainer.  However, there is the option to buy a RTF progressive trainer system modeled after a P-51 Mustang or an F/A-22 that runs you $399.  After that you can expect to pay about $50 to get the basics you need to start and run your plane.  Then of course the fuel you use.

Do I just put it together, read the instructions, and go fly?  Only if you want to bring it home in pieces.  The one certainty in life is that if you try to teach yourself to fly, 99.5% of the time you will crash.  Its not hard to learn but you must have someone teach you!  This gives some experienced eyes a chance to check the plane over also.  Either I can teach you or there should be a local flying club in your area who usually teaches for free. Teaching yourself can not only be damaging to people and property but also FATAL!

What about flying simulators? There are some people that think that sims are a waste of money and some swear by them. I have known them to help a lot of people out in learning how to take off and land. It also helps with helicopter stick orientation. Here is one of the most popular...      http://www.realflight.com/

How young can I start to learn?  This really depends on each individual but 10 is a good starting age.  Younger people may have the motor skills but often do not have the necessary judgment.  This can be costly and dangerous.

How much does it cost to get into flying a helicopter? Helicopters have been very expensive to buy for a long time, until now, there is a 3D heli smaller in size and very affordable.  $199.00 The Blade CP is a ready to fly, directly out of the box, all you have to do is add the 8 AA batteries to the remote control  NOW INCLUDED!  However there is now an even better trainer called the BLADE CX which is an indoor coaxial heli that is super stable to teach you the basics of stick movement.  Come into the store for a flight demo!

So how hard is it to fly the helicopters?  It is very hard to fly a heli (except the Blade CX). However it may be the most challenging thing you have ever done and very fulfilling. If you have experience in flying airplanes it will help in your learning how to fly a helicopter, a lot of people say to spend time on a flight simulator.  So if you are sure you want to learn without any help, I'll keep your parts in stock.

Which are better cars/trucks, nitro or electric?  This is  an easy question to answer.  If you want to simply throw your car/truck out the back door on a whim and tear up the dirt hassel free, then electric!  Modern electrics are high in power and quality. You can even get brushless upgrades for insaine power.  Nitro vehicles have plenty of high speed capability (which is way out anyone I know's capabilities) but they are a lot of work.  They must be broken in properly and tuned every day to keep up!  It is a full blown hobby that requires you to read, study, and learn.  Its a lot of work... you have been warned.
